On Sunday we started a session on grief--the grief we experience through the loss of our marriage. We talked about how, when you lose a loved one through death, you are given ample time and all kinds of considerations are made to allow you to get through that period of time. But when you get a divorce people say, "You just need to get on with your life!" There is an expectancy that you will just pick up and move on. And you can't because you have lost the most important relationship in your life. Your life as you know it doesn't exist anymore. But the good news is that God still has a plan for you. His plan for you takes into consideration all of what has happened to you because God sees the end from the beginning. And He has already made adjustments in your life to accommodate those changes. What we have to do is to tune into God and allow Him to fulfill His adjusted plan for us. For us it seems as if it is "Plan B" but for Him it is still "Plan A" because He knew this would happen.

The stages of grief include: shock, denial, anger, depression, & acceptance. These are not experienced in any special order, and may be felt many times. On average grief lasts 18 to 24 months. The hurt does ease in time. Reach out to friends and family as needed to heal.

Just wanted to respond to this by saying - that I am now 26 months out, and yes, the grief has significantly decreased! When I started this small group last fall, I did not ever see myself as healed as I am now! I am amazed at the way that God has healed me, and especially through this small group!
